How many plug-in solar kits can I have?
One per home, for now. The government plans to allow one per circuit once the network rules are updated.
The rule today
- You can connect one plug-in device per property.Energy Saving Trust, Ofgem
- Don't link several devices together, known as daisy-chaining.Energy Saving Trust
- The one-per-household limit in the network rules (known as G98) continues to apply until those rules change.DESNZ
What's planned
- The government has decided to allow one device per individual power circuit, protected by its own circuit breaker in the fuse box, once G98 is amended.DESNZ
- Consumers will get guidance on identifying circuits, and should ask a qualified electrician if unsure.DESNZ
Got rooftop solar or a battery already?
- Adding a plug-in kit is usually possible. Check with your original installer or a qualified electrician that the system won't be overloaded.Energy Saving Trust
- You may need to tell your network operator if your home will export electricity above a certain level.Energy Saving Trust
